  DOMINIQUE GUSTIN

dominique@paintingandportraiture.com   www.paintingandportraiture.com

Born in Chicago,  and raised all over the place,  Dominique has lived in Vermont for 16 years and now resides in East Hardwick with her husband and
two children. "My portraiture is derived from two things really: A fascination with images of people and places, and a compulsion to draw mustaches on everything. For the most part, I wheedle and cajole my friends and family into letting me take pictures  of them. They have all graciously allowed themselves to be wrapped in tinfoil, or raced energetically around on a stick horse (this is where the art “happening” really takes place), it’s hard to tell what will be necessary beforehand, and the memories are the best part. I also do portraits on commission (from an existing photograph, or one of my own
photo “happenings”). I print the images on canvas or heavy artist paper and then paint on them with a variety of artistic media (larger works are done on canvas). Each piece is original."
Dominique studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and received her B.A. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Art at Johnson State University.  She currently serves as Elder Art Coordinator at River Arts, a nonprofit art organization based in Morrisville, Vermont.
