At an early age, I've always had an interest in drawing and looking
at how strong colors affect people. However, competing with this
interest was the normal interest of a 10-year old geek (science and
sports). Through the years, as with many male artists, I've dabbled
with the doodlings and drawings of fantasy characters (mainly from
comic books), but had no real interest in making a career out of it.
During the years after college and as my interest in
computers grew, I began to create simple pieces of art using such
programs as Lightwave or 3D Studio Max. Building simple paintings on
the computer allowed me to explore the effect of color and
composition. However, being a software developer, I eventually grew
tired of spending endless hours on the computer.
Several years ago, I was visiting the fantastic cities
of Rome and Florence. The architecture of the city was absolutely
phenomenal. After spending my days wandering around and making quick
sketches of statues, I realized that "Art" was, and always has been,
a part of my life. I had rediscovered the passion from my early
childhood.
In my artwork, I love the contrast of simple geometric
structures co-existing with detailed objects. As most artists have
discovered, art is about shape and value. Shapes define the
composition and how different parts of the painting interact with one
another. Value helps the eye focus on a particular part of a
painting/drawing and defines the mood of the artwork.
Being a self-taught artist, I find that there is a
certain enjoyment in not being bound by the way that others pursue
their artwork. However, in the future, I plan to pursue a more
formal training in art to improve my skills and to expand the way
that I view the world around me.
